A common saying in Haiti is, “fanm se poto mitan”, which means that women are the pillars supporting Haitian society. As a result of Haiti's continuous instability for more than 30 years, its women haven't had equal access to a quality education or the tools they need to make a significant impact on their communities. Sem focuses on the needs of women who are small merchants, food vendors, and sharecroppers who work hard every day to sustain and feed their communities.
